Finger Lakes Outdoors Adventures

Watkins Glen State Park

Watkins Glen State Park is the crown jewel of the Finger Lakes State Parks. Within two miles of its start, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls all along its course. The gorge path travels over and under waterfalls. Journey through the spray of Cavern Cascade and take a break to take in the view from rim trails overlooking the gorge. Enjoy the Olympic-size pool, picnic facilities and excellent fishing in nearby Seneca Lake or Catherine Creek, which is renowned for its annual spring run of rainbow trout.

Genesee Country Village & Museum

Step back in time at Genesee Country Village & Museum, just 20 miles from Rochester, N.Y. It is the largest of its kind in New York and one of the largest in the nation. The Nature Center is comprised of 175 acres featuring five miles of hiking trails through woodlands, wetlands and meadows. Explore the historic village and the John L. Wehle Art Gallery. A variety of horse-drawn carriages from the 19th and early 20th centuries fill the Carriage Museum. The Silver Base Ball Park brings 19th century baseball to life. The thirteen heirloom gardens will engage your senses.

Tanglewood Nature Center & Museum

Explore nine miles of scenic trails in the Finger Lakes area. Begin your journey at the Nature Center, which allows you to experience the natural beauty of the Chemung Valley first-hand. The museum features 43 species of live animals, interactive exhibits and a comfortable library for bird-watching and reading. The land around the trails abounds with animals and birds.

Farm Sanctuary

This 175-acre New York farm is nestled among rolling green hills and forests in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York and is located next door to Sugar Hill State Forest, just west of Watkins Glen. Farm Sanctuary's New York facility cares for hundreds of animals and welcomes thousands of visitors every year. The "People Barn," a unique visitor center, is filled with displays, literature and videos. Tours also include the "Kids' Korner" and gift shop where visitors will find a variety of items, including books, videos, posters and vegetarian snacks.

The Seaway Trail

The New York State Seaway Trail is a 454-mile scenic route that runs parallel with Lake Erie, the Niagara River, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. A well-marked, scenic alternative to interstate highways and toll roads, it leads you to eye-opening treasures you might otherwise overlook. Explore sophisticated cities, quaint villages, laid back fishing ports, dozens of family attractions, restaurants, accommodations and shops.

Tioga Scenic Railroad

Take a journey back in time and escape from the ordinary when experience the nostalgia golden age railroading aboard a Tioga Scenic Railroad Excursion. Choose from a variety of exciting tours. Travel in leisure through the scenic countryside between historic Owego and Newark Valley aboard early 1900's vintage railroad cars. Enjoy the outdoors aboard late 1800's open air cars. Lunch or Dinner excursions feature renovated 1940's vintage dining cars.

Seneca Park Zoo

Seneca Park Zoo offers public exhibition of animals in naturalistic environments. It is dedicated to ensuring high quality of life for the animals in its care and is a strong advocate humane and responsible stewardship of all living things. Enjoy a fun, engaging educational experience when you explore the relationship between humans and the natural world.

Cayuga Nature Center

Cayuga Nature Center allows you to explore the wonders of the natural world first hand. The CNC houses over 40 live animals in both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Visit the Butterfly House seasonally from June to August. Climb 50 feet into the tree canopy in Treetops, a six story observational tree-house. Take in the beauty of the outdoors while walking five miles of interpretive trails, which meander through a mature deciduous forest, along gorges and streams, and past a variety of native plants and wildlife.

Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park

Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park is located about 2 miles north of Canandaigua Lake, one of the Finger Lakes, and is open from mid-May until mid-October for the garden season. The park is comprised of 52 scenic acres, a museum in the estate mansion and lush gardens that include rose, pansy, Japanese, rock, Italian and more.

Dedicated to the memory of the aviation pioneer, the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum contains a priceless collection relating to early aviation and local history, a 75-seat theater, large open area for special events and a gift shop. In addition to viewing the museum displays and exhibits, visitors are welcome to visit the Restoration Shop, talk with volunteer craftsman and watch them work on historic aircraft.

Rockwell Museum of Western Art

National Women's Hall of Fame

Believing that the contribution of American women deserved a permanent home, a group of women and men of Seneca Falls created the National Women's Hall of Fame in 1969. In 1979, after a major fundraising drive, the Hall purchased an historic bank building in the heart of the Seneca Falls Historic District and renovated it to house the Hall's permanent exhibit, artifacts of historical interest, and offices.

Chemung Valley History Museum

The Chemung Valley History Museum is dedicated to presenting history in new and exciting ways. It offers resources on the history of the Chemung River Valley region through collections focusing on the Southern Tier of New York State and neighboring Northern Pennsylvania. Experience history brought to life through interpretive exhibitions, education programs, and publications.

The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum

All aboard the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum! Come take photos, and reminisce with other enthusiasts over these historic rail cars and vehicles of days gone by. Take your time and walk through a restored 1909 Erie Railroad depot. See and explore freight and passengers cars, locomotives, cabooses, trolleys, and other pieces of transportation equipment. Look through photographic displays of Genesee Valley transportation history, enjoy historic films in the video gallery, and visit a large operating HO model train display.

Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology

The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (aka The MOST) is located in the Armory Square area of downtown Syracuse, New York. The museum includes multiple exhibits and a domed IMAX movie theatre. It is located in the historic former Syracuse Armory building and has become one of the top visitor attractions in Onondaga County. Explore the world of science & technology with exhibits that encourage "hands on" learning.

The Erie Canal Museum

The Erie Canal Museum (ECM) is housed in the 1850 Weighlock Building, where canal boats were weighed during the days when they traveled through the center of Syracuse on the Erie Canal. There is a gallery full of participatory exhibits that gives visitors a look at canal life and promotes hands-on learning. Each year, the museum hosts three special exhibits that draw on its nationally renowned artifact collection and historical research.

The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art

The Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art is located on the Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York. It houses Cornell's art collection, which was begun in the 1880s by Cornell's first president, Andrew Dickson White. The Johnson Museum has one of the finest collections of art in New York State and is recognized as one of the most important university museums in the country. The permanent collection consists of more than 30,000 works of art. Aside from the outstanding Asian collection, its greatest strength is in European and American prints, drawings, and photographs, presenting the history of graphic art from the fifteenth century to the present, American painting and sculpture, European art from ancient Greece to the present, African sculpture and textiles, and pre-Columbian sculpture and ceramics are also well represented.

Clemens Center

The Clemens Center, named for Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain) is the professional arts facility and staff resource for the Southern Tier Region of New York and the Central Northern Tier of Pennsylvania providing a 1,600-seat renovated Vaudeville theatre, Powers Theater and the 200-seat flexible performance space, Mandeville Hall to meet the needs of artists and audiences for the performing arts.

Landmark Theatre

The Landmark Theatre, a National Historic Landmark, is located in downtown Syracuse. The theatre hosts a wide variety of music and other live entertainment programs. From comedy to drama, classical music to lectures, there's always something happening.

Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center

The Finger Lakes Performing Arts Center is an outdoor amphitheater on the campus of Finger Lakes Community College and hosts a variety of events during the summer months, including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the site of other musical performances. In addition to the full concert schedule, the facility is also used for College and community activities, including the Finger Lakes Chorale and other FLCC musical groups.

Bristol Valley Theater

Bristol Valley Theater (BVT) is a unique, professional, summer theater located in rural western New York and serves an audience that would not otherwise have ready access to professional theater productions. BVT produces and presents the performing arts from May through October. The spring and fall series feature a wide variety of performing arts: improv comedy, dance, solos shows, children’s and family programming. Also included are concerts from an array of genres of music, blues, bluegrass, folk, rock and jazz.
